Whether you are looking to find a job in a better position, looking to make a change laterally or thinking about starting fresh in a new career, one of the most important tools is a great resume.  The most important thing a resume can do is get you in the door.  That’s right.  A resume is only successful if you can get and interview to sell yourself.  Here are some tips on creating a great resume.

Make your resume stand out.  Make sure your resume is error free, written well  and that the impression that you want to make to others stands out.  It is important to sell yourself properly.  Don’t list any negatives or weaknesses.  Stick with you strengths and how you can add value to a company.

Other important tips on writing a great resume are to make sure your objectives are clear.  Your goal and position that you are seeking should be obvious.  Also make sure your chronological time line (if included) is accurate and add any special achievements that may be useful to the job you are seeking.

There are plenty of sites that offer advice on building a proficient resume and cover letter.  You should take advantage of them.  Major job sites like Hotjobs.com and Monster.com offer tons of advice on the whole job seeking process.  They can give you hints from picking the right company, to preparing your online cover letter and resume to interviewing tips once you are called in for an interview.

So start building that great resume and hopefully you will find that once in a lifetime opportunity.
