The Hard Sell Isn’t Always Best

Most small businesses starting out usually go with the hard sell to make their sales.  Unfortunately, the hard sell is not always the best way to sell your product or start a relationship with a customer.  Here are some tips on how to avoid the hard sell, but still be profitable.

Yes, the hard sell works with many types of sales, but if you are looking to establish a relationship with a customer or looking for a person to visit your web site over and over, the hard sell is obviously not the way to go.  Many people that constantly contact the same people over and over again via email opt in lists are using hard selling techniques..  While you can land a few sales, if you are sending a sales letter 2 or 3 times a week, most people will consider you spam and unsubscribe.  If you are hungry for sales, use moderation.  An all out assault might land you a few more sales but upset many other possible customers which will unsubscribe.

If you have a web site, the hard sell is advertisements in the form of pop ups, pop unders and lots of flash ads.  Figure out your goals before employing these strategies, they may backfire for you in the long run.  If you are looking to start a profitable customer base, the hard sell isn’t always the best.
