Yahoo Making a Play for the Top Spot

Amid pressure from the other two companies that make up the big three, Yahoo has made a play that they hope will pay off.  Feeling the heat from the big ones like Google and Microsoft, Yahoo decided to strike a deal with huge computer maker HP to pre install the Yahoo search engine on each new computer that is sold.  This comes as an effort by one of the oldest internet companies to answer calls that they are falling behind in the rankings with the bold moves made by their biggest competitors.  There is also the fall out from the loss of several top executives to newbie’s like Youtube.com and the like.

Yahoo has struggled for many years, though they are still making money.  They seem to be lagging behind in the ratings because they are no longer on the cutting edge of the technology as they were when they first began.  Of course Yahoo mail is still one of the top services for free web based email accounts, but concerns over spammers have made that a not so bright future.  Then the fact that they took years to release the first version of their own advertising service, Yahoo Ads, when Google was already making a fortune in the area.

Industry insiders expect some big things from Yahoo in the coming year.  There are others who believe the company may simply be out in the cold since they have taken their time once too many.  The fall out really began when Yahoo announced the end of the free internet service and then added the paying ranges for the Yahoo mail accounts.  This was an effort to increase profits that was not real popular with the public.  Since that time the company has struggled to maintain its hold on the top spot for search engine rankings.

When Google was launched there was shiver down the spine of the community as they answered the problems with Yahoo head on.  The results were far more relevant then that of the competitor and the overall experience was easier to use.  Yahoo was quick to act but they failed in a big way.  They are still having trouble hanging on to their customers and users even though they offer so many different services in the free area.  The concern about the new processes in Yahoo is all too grounded in reality.  There needs to be some big things come out of the company in the very near future to secure their place in internet history.
